Are National Parks Needed?
What are National Parks?
Have you ever wondered what exactly National Parks are for? According to Encyclopedia Britannica, National Parks are areas set aside by National governments to preserve the natural environment while giving the public a place for recreation and enjoyment. National Parks can also be set aside for scientific and/or historic interests. When exploring a National Park’s great outdoors and taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells, do you ever feel like life would be missing something wonderful without them? We have many National Parks to probe here in the USA and the top seven are; Glacier National Park in Montana, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Yosemite National Park in California, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, Grand Teton in Wyoming, Zion National Park in Utah, and Denali National Park in Alaska. Each one offering unique adventures and breathtaking scenery guaranteed to stimulate the spirit in you!
What is the Purpose of a National Park?
Besides historic or scientific interests, National Parks are also used for conservation and preservation. Most landscapes and their accompanying plants and animals are kept in their natural state, not altered in any way. Each park has its own purpose, those in Canada and the United States focus their attention on the protection of both land and wildlife, while those in the United Kingdom tend to focus on the land, and those in Africa focus on animal conservation. Each one is just as important in keeping our natural world natural.
When did the National parks Start?
While many believe that Yellowstone national Park in Wyoming was the first one established in 1832, others argue that in 1783, the Bogd Khan Uul National Park in Mongolia was the first. Regardless of which one was first, it then led to others being created such as; Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Sequoia National Park in California, and Yosemite National Park in California to be established in the late 18oos with the idea of protecting outstanding scenic nature. In the following decades more and more parks were being funded which led to the creation of the National Parks Services or NPS in 1916 to administer the parks and protect their natural beauty.
Why Should We Care About the Importance of National Parks?
As the years pass, the world is constantly changing and evolving. Sometimes for the better and sometimes not. Plants and animals are becoming endangered or extinct and the areas known as National Parks help to provide the safe environment they need to exist. They also provide a wholesome space for us to escape from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives. Hiking down to hidden lakes in Glacier National Park, scaling Half-Dome in Yosemite national Park, or seeing wild buffalo grazing by the road in Yellowstone national Park are a sight to behold and a great way to enjoy the natural and historic world with your friends and family.
