What is Spring Cleaning Anyway?
Spring Cleaning Defined
When you hear the term “Spring Cleaning”, what comes to mind? Deep cleaning of your home, decluttering of your office, organization of your craft room, or the condensing of your clothes in the closet. It could be all those things. The actual definition is the act or process of doing a thorough cleaning of a place. It can encompass many things to fit your needs or wants.
A Fresh Start
With the coming of spring, we see green grass, new blooms, and the remnants of winter melting away to the warmth of springtime. This, in turn, brings about longer days which cause us to want to be more active and productive. And what could be more productive than making sure we kick off the season with a fresh start by cleaning out the old and making room for the new. Along with a sense of purpose and pride in having a clean environment to create from, it also brings peace to our minds knowing we are ready for what’s to come. The acts of donating items, shredding old papers, and letting go of clutter can clear out minds of unwanted or unnoticed stress.
A Self Check-In
Spring cleaning is a chance to check in with yourself, see if those New Year’s resolutions have stuck or if you need to reevaluate your goals for the rest of the year. What do you want to accomplish and how do you make it happen? It’s important for your self-care to ask these sorts of questions and take the steps to make them happen for peace of mind. It is also important to make sure your environment reflects these goals. Do I really need eight pairs of running shore? Will having six boxes of paper clips really make me more productive? Take stock of what you want to do with your time, whether it’s for work or for play, and see where changes need to be made to get you back on track with your goals.
Not Just for Your Living Space
Spring cleaning doesn’t need to only mean your house, workspace, or garage. It can also be your outdoor spaces. Yards need some attention, love, and organization too. Maybe your window boxes didn’t work with the plants you chose last year or that one area in the back gets less sun for the plants you want there. Sometimes cleaning can be as simple as changing things around and rearranging what you already have to work with. Finding the perfect place for everything and having everything in its perfect place can give you a great sense of accomplishment and pride in a job well done.
A New Dawn, A New Day, A New You
Spring brings out the best in us. We want to grab life by the horns and make the most of it. Spring cleaning is a way to either jumpstart that process or bring a decisive goal to the forefront. Either way, spring is the time for shedding old things and old ways to make room for everything new. So, bring out the cleaning supplies and the creative organizer in you to re-shape, re-mold, and re-envision the future you. It’s time to see what spring has to offer and make room for it!
